Echinacea is an herb that seems to help the immune system. I have found that taking 2-3 full droppers of liquid extract per day has prevented me from having a lot of severe colds during winter. It will not stop a full-blown case of the flu, though. I recommend a flu shot or Tamiflu for influenza. Echinacea can still be helpful in minor problems. I have also read that echinacea can help in cancer prevention. It is definitely an herb worth trying.

Creatine
Creatine is a body-building substance that weight lifters often use to build muscle. Whether you are a weight lifter or not, it is worthwhile taking creatine to help your body repair itself. Our bodies gradually wear out as we get older, and we also do not digest food as well when we get past 40. So, it makes sense to take supplements in order to rebuild ourselves before we land up in a doctor's office.
The best creatine I have found is called N.O.-Xplode. You can get it at GNC stores and many other places in bulk powder form. You simply mix the flavored powder in water and drink it. I like to add Coke to mine to make it taste even better. In addition to building muscle, N.O.-Xplode has ingredients that enhance sexual prowess as well. Thus, you solve two problems with one drink! You should probably start out with a small quantity at first to be certain you do not have any adverse reactions, though.

Prostate Inflammation and Cancer
I am not a doctor, but I have read many health books and magazines. One subject that I looked at many times involved prostate problems. I am 61 years old, but I started having trouble with my prostate when I was in my early 40s. Consequently, I started trying natural solutions many years ago, and I feel great now at 61.
One product that I started taking quite a few years ago was Saw Palmetto. This is an herb that reduces prostate inflammation. The best brand I have found is Herb Pharm's alcohol liquid extract. Simply put three full droppers of Saw Palmetto every day in juice or EmergenC effervescent Vitamin C, and you will soon be feeling better unless it is a problem where you need to see a doctor. It will taste somewhat bitter, but you will get used to the taste when you experience the benefits. You can get this product from Vitacost.com on the internet.
A second great discovery in past years involved drinking tomato juice. It not only helps the prostate, but studies have shown that tomato juice prevents cancer also. You can buy 6 oz and 12 oz cans of juice at just about any grocery store. I try to drink at least one 6 oz can of tomato juice each day. In addition to helping my prostate, I also get valuable potassium from the tomato juice which is a body energizer. Then, finally, the juice reportedly helps to rebuild your liver if it is damaged.

Rhodiola
If you are constantly looking for a fountain of youth, you may be well rewarded if you seek for solutions in the realm of herbs and other vitamin-like supplements. Rhodiola is the latest great discovery. It increases energy like Coenzyme Q10, it helps prevent cancer by protecting the DNA of cells, and it enhances sexual function in both men and women.
However, the quality of Rhodiola that you take is vital for making a difference in your health. The recommended doses are between 100mg to 400mg, but these amounts must be concentrated extracts to achieve results. I have found two brands that I believe work. The first one is a tablet form made by Amway. You could do a search for Amway distributors to purchase Rhodiola from them. The second brand that I found is a liquid extract made by Herb Pharm. You simply squeeze a dropper full of Rhodiola into a soft drink or glass of juice. It will be a sweet flowery flavor that will be easy to accept. One dropper of the liquid extract will equal a few hundred milligrams of a capsule or tablet form. You can get Herb Pharm's Rhodiola from VitaCost.com.
In other news, the nutrition section of the December issue of Men's Health magazine talks about how small deficiencies of vitamin K and selenium can cause cell damage. This situation can turn into cancer, and even more importantly, it causes old age. If you want to stay youthful, you need to find good sources of vitamin K and selenium. VitaCost.com has selenium, and vitamin K can be found in many places. Just be certain to buy a quality brand where you can see the results in better physical health.

Saved From Death
When I was in my 20s, I first learned about herbs and vitamins through Prevention magazine. Being young at the time, I did not take the information seriously during that period because I had plenty of energy and good health. The mid 30s ushered in a whole new ballgame, though. I suffered one of the classic signs of a heart attack at work when I was 35. My chest felt like it was being crushed. I did not seek medical attention at the time, but I made immediate changes in my eating habits by reducing fat-laden fast food. I also began an earnest search for how supplements could help.
The most helpful supplement that I found in the next few years was Coenzyme Q10. This supplement increases heart energy and thereby reduces heart stress. It is also beneficial for gums, mucous membranes, and ulcers. Taking 120 mg of COQ10 in my 30s stopped the angina chest pain. I have now taken it around 25 years, and I believe it has helped my gums and stomach also. I am taking no prescription medications of any kind now at 61 years of age. I believe that taking supplements is the best way to stay out of the doctor's office.
An excellent book that talks about Coenzyme Q10 is called Miracle Cures by Jean Carper. In her book, Jean tells about an elderly woman who was almost dead. She was taking a small amount of COQ10 at the time--30 mg--and her son accidentally bought her a more powerful form of the substance. When she started taking 300 mg of COQ10 daily, she was miraculously saved from death. So, the amount of COQ10 matters just as much as a quality form of the supplement. Numerous cases prove COQ10 can be a life-saver as well as improving a person's quality of life.

Magnesium Prevents Old Age
The October issue of Men's Health talked about the benefits of certain foods in the magazine's Nutrition section. Cashews and black beans were mentioned as two foods that can prevent magnesium deficiency. We need to maintain proper levels of magnesium to prevent cell degeneration and old age related diseases.

Aspirin Benefits
The September issue of Men's Health magazine had an excellent small article on the benefits of aspirin. Dr. Peter Rothwell said that "aspirin may prevent cancer by affecting the way DNA repairs itself." "His recent study in the Lancet showed that people who took a daily aspirin for at least 4 years reduced their risk of dying of any kind of cancer over the next 20 years by 34 percent."
This sounds like a good plan to me. However, if a person has a problem with internal bleeding, then another solution would be needed. Fortunately, we have many health publications nowadays to help us, and a lot of additional information is on the internet.
